Downtown Revitalization

Lubbock’s city council approved a design yesterday for the expansion and renovation of the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center downtown. The budget for the plan is expected to be presented to the council in the next 4 to 6 weeks. Texas farmers say they're facing a mounting number of challenges that go beyond the severe drought in the region. Texas Public Radio’s David Martin Davies reports many of the advantages associated with farming in Texas are no longer available.

Lubbock County Republican chairman David Bruegel has announced his campaign for Lubbock City Council District 3 representative. Our Brad Burt reports he was endorsed by the district's current councilman David Glasheen. The City of Lubbock broke ground yesterday on the Lubbock Downtown Park. The project is anticipated as a way to revitalize the downtown area and is expected to open in 2026.

Newly-dubbed Pickering Park in downtown Lubbock is intended to create a more walkable community and help drive new development in downtown. The project broke ground yesterday and construction is expected to be complete in nine to ten months.
