The number of new COVID-19 cases in Lubbock have continued to decrease in recent weeks, but the Hub City is not out of the woods just yet.
On Wednesday, the City of Lubbock confirmed 161 new coronavirus cases and two additional deaths related to COVID-19. There were 179 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Lubbock, with 54 of them being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.
With between 100 and 200 new cases a day, Lubbock health officials say their COVID-19 numbers are now manageable. There were several days in October and Novemeber when the city added six to seven hundred new cases a day.
Still, Doctor Ron Cook, the city's health authority, said residents should not let their guards down.
"Our hospitals remain full and our ICUs are full, despite our numbers going down with COVID," Cook said.
Lubbock County has a total of 45,876 confirmed coronavirus cases, with 2,908 cases currently active and 638 deaths.
