Lubbock has confirmed 9 new cases of COVID-19 today. This brings the total case count for the county to 756, with 196 listed as active, 50 deaths, and 510 listed as recovered.
From the City of Lubbock;
“The City of Lubbock has confirmed five more recoveries today from COVID-19. The official recovered number continues to rise steadily. On Monday, the City also confirmed nine new cases of Coronavirus (COVID-19) as of 4:00 p.m. on June 8, 2020. The total number of cases in Lubbock County is 756: 196 active, 510 listed as recovered and 50 deaths. All this information can be found on a comprehensive dashboard at www.mylubbock.us/COVID19
The City of Lubbock Health Department and other response agencies are prepared and have employed standard response plans designed to address and resolve public health issues. The Department will continue monitoring individuals as indicated by the CDC. The Department’s disease surveillance team will continue working diligently to ensure the public remains at a low risk of contracting COVID-19.
The City of Lubbock Health Department and our health care partners will continue to monitor COVID-19 in the Lubbock area to prepare for the possibility of more local cases. Please continue to follow proper hygiene recommendations and social distancing practices.”
This comes as the Texas Tech athletic department confirmed an undisclosed number of people within the men's basketball program tested positive for COVID-19. The program issued the following statement.
"The members of the program who have tested positive have been self-isolated in accordance with CDC guidelines and the City Department of Health procedures for a positive test, including contact tracing. Per Texas Tech's established protocol, those who tested positive will receive daily monitoring from the athletic department's sports medicine staff and team physicians. The health, safety & well-being of our student-athletes and staff is our top priority as a university and athletic department. Due to privacy laws the University cannot disseminate information regarding specific individuals and their health."
