Two Lubbock businessmen were found guilty by a jury in federal court yesterday in a more than $60 million investment scheme that affected over 500 investors. Ferrum Capital's Joshua Allen and Michael Cox face up to 70 years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for December 10. The discussion on data centers from Lubbock’s city council will take a step further now that a citizen petition submitted earlier this month has been confirmed. Our Samantha Larned reports the city council’s meeting next Tuesday will not include a decision on the moratorium itself, but the council is expected to schedule a public hearing before voting on the moratorium.

A federal appeals court has upheld a Texas law requiring the display of the Ten Commandments in every public-school classroom in the state. Houston Public Media’s Andrew Schneider reports the ruling has significant implications for long-established ideas of the separation of church and state. Meanwhile a federal grand jury in Lubbock has indicted 14 people from Texas and Eastern New Mexico under allegations of conspiracy to sell stolen crude oil across state lines.

Lubbock County saw more than 7,000 voters in the first three days of early voting, that’s a more than 75% increase over turnout in the last two primary election cycles. Our reporter Brad Burt spoke with voters about what brought them out to the polls. Last week, a Texas Tech University assistant professor and two other Lubbock residents were federally charged for conspiracy to distribute fentanyl.
