Obama addresses economy after weak job gains

President Barack Obama addressed the economy after a federal government report Friday revealed the weakest job gains in seven months, the Associated Press reported. The jobless rate remained low at 5 percent.

Obama suggested that both the U.S. economy and global economy have lagged. He also encouraged Congress to fund infrastructure to enhance job growth, to raise the minimum wage, pass trade agreements and simplify the tax code.

He also stressed the need for financial institutions to do more to expose anonymous shell companies, track money and make sure that companies aren’t evading taxes.

“We’re not going to be able to complete this job unless Congress acts as well,” he said.

He also reflected on the on-going U.S. presidential election and cautioned against the media feeding spectacle.
