The Fifth Annual Lubbock Lights

Lubbock Lights returns this week for its fifth annual performance. Jo Moore joins this Front Row to talk more about the event.

Tell us about what Lubbock Lights is and how it got started.

Lubbock Lights is now in its fifth season, which is just stunning to me. We started Lubbock Lights as an initiative when President Nelis was here, and of course it’s expanded and grown since then. The idea was to celebrate the musical heritage of the South Plains and all its different forms musically.

Not only that, but to explore the creative process, to have workshops and classes and make it a week of residencies where we could go to the public schools, we could also dovetail it with classes here…and actually have our artists not only perform, but talk about song writing, writing in general, perhaps the music business, and the genre that comes from here.
