The Presidential Lecture and Performance Series is continuing its series with BodyTraffic, a production devoted to dance. Jo Moore gives more information on this episode of The Front Row.
Tell us about what’s coming up.
I am so excited. As you know, dance is one of my favorite artistic cultural forms of programming that we are able to present as part of the Presidential Lecture and Performance Series and we have a company called “BodyTraffic,” and they are a relatively new company—they’re in their tenth season. They’re from Los Angeles originally and they employ a variety of choreographers to create dances for them.
One of the neat things about them is that they have a very versatile stable of dancers, they only have six dancers. Often times you’ll see dance performances as part of the presidential lecture and performance series where you’ll have at least a dozen dancers and they only have six dancers. They’re very energetic. It’s a very fast paced kind of company, a lot of energy…They’re traditional in the way in which they approach dance, but with a contemporary twist.
They are also cultural ambassadors to the U.S. In 2015, Obama selected them to visit Israel and Jordan. They’ve been to Indonesia, South Korea, they’re very involved in education and outreach. And as you know, we make a point to have outreach as part of our series programming. So, BodyTraffic is going to be working with our Ballet Lubbock students, as well as our Texas Tech dance students.
