Proposed Budget Cuts to CPB Could Negatively Affect Texas Tech Public Radio

Defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcast and eliminating federal funding to public media would be a significant blow to more than 1,200 public radio stations across the country that provide 41 million people every week with free over-the-air programming they can't find anywhere else.

Texas Tech Public Radio provides news and information as well as music to the greater Lubbock community on the air and on digital platforms.  KTTZ-FM provides non-commercial programming that informs, educates, and inspires.

For almost fifty years, the federal government has provided financial support for public broadcasting to serve the public interest with educational, news and cultural programming that can’t be found elsewhere, as well as vital information during local and regional emergencies. Public broadcasting (radio and television combined) reaches more than 95% of the U.S. population with free, over-the-air programming. It provides an essential service to local communities and serves as a lifeline for rural America and those seeking vital information during emergencies. At a cost to taxpayers of only $1.35 per citizen per year, public media is one of America’s best investments that pays huge dividends for every American. This vital investment strengthens our communities, and has special import for rural and underserved areas.

KTTZ-FM, "Texas Tech Public Radio," provides the South Plains with the very best in classical music, NPR and cultural programming.

Becky joined the Texas Tech Public Media team in September of 2013 after more than 17 years in the broadcast business with many different roles. Becky started her career path with classes in high school and continued through college. Her first media job was at KLBK-13 in production of live news & sports. While working at the television stations Becky began her freelancing position with Texas Tech Athletics. She continues to freelance and loves working on live broadcasts with Texas Tech Athletics and Fox Sports. Becky found a real passion for marketing and promotions while she worked at KJTV-34 for several years. She returned to her media roots at KLBK-13 & KAMC-28 in a promotions position and received Employee of the Year in 2007 and was promoted to eMedia Manager in 2009. Becky is very happy to be back in the marketing and promotions game at Channel 5 and 89.1. She is excited about all the new and exciting things planned for Texas Tech Public Media.
