Texas Tech Public Radio Brings NPR's 'From The Top' To Lubbock

From the Top, the preeminent showcase for young musicians heard weekly on KTTZ 89.1FM, Texas Tech Public Radio, is coming to The Allen Theatre at Texas Tech University on February 27, 2016 at 7:00 PM.

This special live radio recording event will celebrate the great musical training and talent in the Lubbock area with performances by two local teen musicians.

Featured on the broadcast will be 16-year-old violinist Fiona Shea from Lubbock, Texas, who studies at the Texas Tech University School of Music with John Gilbert. 16-year-old flute player Yuna Langehennig, also from Lubbock, Texas, will receive From the Top’s Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award in conjunction with her performance on the show. This award includes a $10,000 scholarship to assist with expenses related to studying music for extraordinary young musicians who have nancial need.

This recording of the popular NPR program hosted by acclaimed pianist Christopher O’Riley will feature amazing performances and captivating personal stories of extraordinary young musicians from across the country, including the Trio Lago Verde piano trio, which formed at Green Lake Festival of Music Chamber Music Camp. It’s members are 13-year-old pianist Caleb Borick, 14-year-old violinist Emily Hauer, and 14-year-old cellist Esther Chae. Also featured will be 16-year-old pianist Nicholas Mendez from Pasadena, California.
