Ahead of launching its redesigned website, the City of Lubbock recently created new displays for performance metrics on its website, providing progress updates and goals from various departments.
Through the performance dashboards, residents can find data on city departments like fire, police, code enforcement, streets, animal services, and more.
Lubbock City Manager Jarrett Atkinson said some of this information has been on the website for years, but it wasn’t always easy for citizens to find.
“So think of our common questions,” he explained. “‘What did Animal Control do this month? I still see a stray dog or a stray cat?’ Well, the answer is right there. Down to our shelter population, the calls that we've received, what the officers are doing.”
Atkinson specifically pointed to the Code Enforcement metrics, which he compared to a GIS (Geographic Information System) map. Residents can look at activity across the city, by district, and in specific neighborhoods and addresses.
He said that the city will continue to build out the dashboards to provide more details.
“We've got a decent set of reporting on our 2022 road bond,” he said. “But the 2024 road bond is being developed in the background, and it'll come forward. So you'll be able to match – we've said each of those is a five year process, year one, two, etc. – you'll be able to see that and where we stand on each of those. And the citizens voted to give us those dollars, we owe it to them to say, ‘Yes, here's what we've done.’”
Later this month, the city will be launching a redesigned website, to be more accessible and user-friendly.
Atkinson said the current website is about 8 years old. And while it is an improvement over the one before, it is not easy for residents to navigate or for city employees to update quickly.
“The new one will be much simpler,” he said.
The city’s web address will not change and current users of the MyLBK app should see no changes to their credentials. New website and app users will be asked to create a Civic Plus account.
The new website is set to launch April 22.
