He argues, through the examination of archival materials, that the British were not pro-Arab as popularly believed, but favored the Zionists. NPR's David Welna reports on budget negotiations in Congress, where President Bush is trying to push through his 10-year, $1.6 trillion tax-cut plan. Lawmakers are said to be working towards a bipartisan compromise that would give Mr. Bush less than he asked for, but one that -- according to one senator -- both sides could "live with."

Lesotho Textile Industry Feels Effect of New Trade Rules
New trade rules lifting quotas on garment exports are having an impact for many countries. One such country is the tiny African nation of Lesotho, where six factories have closed and some 6,000 workers have lost their jobs.

'Oxford American'
Oxford American magazine has released its 6th music issue, which includes a 23-track CD. The effort of collecting and compiling that many songs may seem like a strange choice for "the southern magazine of good writing," but editor Marc Smirnoff says it's actually quite natural. American music comes from the South, Smirnoff tells Steve as they highlight some of the tracks.

Singer and songwriter John Fogerty
We spoke with him on the occasion of an album releasethe double CD concert album Premonition. A Gallup poll shows 6 in 10 Americans say the U.S. should withdraw some or all troops from Iraq. In February, less than half of those surveyed by Gallup offered that opinion.

Storyteller Mitch Myers recounts the tale of Duke Ellington's performance at the Newport Jazz festival in 1956.
