The Front Row: Brahms, Schumann and Dvorak

Lubbock Symphony Orchestra website

The Lubbock Symphony Orchestra has concerts this weekend at the Lubbock Civic Center. Maestro David Cho and Galen Wixson visit with the Front Row to share more information about the events.

Galen tell us a little bit about the event this weekend.

You’ll hear some really famous, wonderful, lighthearted works that will probably make you want to get up and dance because they are full of movement and motion. Following that we’ll bring a famous cellist to perform a gorgeous cello concerto…being a cellist I can’t wait to hear it…it’s probably one of the top five cello concerti that you’re ever going to hear and she promises to perform beautifully for us.

The second half we’ll hear Dvorak’s Symphony Number 6, which was I would say was his breakout…I think this work really shows Dvorak at his best. I can’t wait to hear David’s interpretation. The orchestra I know is into it, so it’s just going to be a wonderful evening.

Maestro David Cho, help us unpack the program musically.

It’s all about the rhythm…I believe he actually wrote it for himself for the piano and it got orchestrated later on by various people…We began are season with a big virtuosic bang with Pines of Rome. We wanted to bring to the public something a little different. We have the fall season in the air and we needed something introspective.
