I’ve always used this space to bring you news and information about arts and entertainment in Lubbock, the surrounding area and the world. I’ve tried my best to avoid discussing sports, as every other local news outlet devotes way too much time to men playing games and not nearly enough to other issues and cultural traditions. But today I want to break away and join the chorus by talking about Texas Tech Basketball.
Texas Tech’s men’s basketball is the hottest ticket in town, but not enough people are showing up to support the team. Coach, Chris Beard, who left the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to come to Lubbock and steward his dream job, has done a remarkable service to our program in a very short time span.
Ranked 21st in the nation, the Red Raiders are having one of their best seasons since Bobby Knight helmed the program. One great way to keep up with the team is their Instagram or facebook page. Recently they were featured on the Scott Van Pelt show on ESPN on top of making it onto Sportscenter’s top plays in college basketball.
They play tomorrow night against Abilene Christian University next Friday night against Baylor, before hitting the road to take on highly-ranked Kansas. Lots of opportunities to go out and support a very entertaining Texas Tech squad that will more than likely be playing in the big tournament come March.
