DVD Picks 05-22-2012

I almost forgot to do this! Let me start over... I DID FORGET TO DO THIS ON TUESDAY! I apologize, thanks for the viewer/reader who reminded me I forgot to recommend DVD picks this week! Without further ado,

Red Tails (2012)
dir. Anthony Hemingway

Produced by George Lucas, and starring some very fine actors I can't imagine this movie isn't at least worth a rental. The aerial battles looked amazing in the trailers and I bet it's worth $1.00 at redbox for that stuff alone!

Product Description:
Academy Award Winner Cuba Gooding Jr. and Academy Award Nominee Terrence Howard lead a powerful ensemble cast in this high-flying epic inspired by the real-life adventures of the first African-American combat unit to serve in World War II. Italy, 1944. As the war takes its toll on Allied forces in Europe, a squadron of black pilots known as the Tuskegee Airmen are finally given the chance to prove themselves in the sky...even as they battle discrimination on the ground. Featuring jaw-dropping aerial action and thrilling special effects, Red Tails is a breathtaking tribute to the unsung heroes who rose above extraordinary challenges and ultimately soared into history.

The Woman in Black (2012)
dir. James Watkins

Harry Potter in a horror film, enough said. Heck, I'll say more, this actually got good reviews and many people said Harry was great in it. I might check it out at some point, but not today or tomorrow. Possibly on a sick day, on nyquil.

Product Description:
A young lawyer travels to a remote village to organize a recently deceased client's papers, where he discovers the ghost of a scorned woman set on vengeance.

This Means War (2012)
dir. McG

A film based on Mad Magazine's "Spy vs. Spy"?  Reese Witherspoon? Directed by McG? What could possibly go wrong? (sarcasm font)

Product Description:
FDR (Chris Pine) and Tuck (Tom Hardy) are covert CIA operatives and best buddies...until they both fall for charming and sexy Lauren (Reese Witherspoon). Their friendship is put to the ultimate test as they wage an epic battle for her affection, using their surveillance skills and an array of high-tech gadgetry -- may the best spy win!

The Secret World of Arrietty (2012)

It's the Borrowers(again) but that's ok this iteration seems to be magnificent. A great rent for your children if you are tired of Spongebob.

A Serbian Film [Uncut] (2010)
dir. Srdjan Spasojevic

NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES SEE THIS MOVIE, EVER! ok? Don't even read a description of what it's about, I still have nightmares...

Lethal Weapon Collection (1987, 1989, 1992, 1998)
dir. Richard Donner

This is the only way to get parts 3 and 4 on Blu-ray.

Product Description:
"Lethal Weapon" (1987) With over seven minutes of previously unavailable scenes, the director's cut of "Lethal Weapon" is a long-overdue present for fans. Riggs' solitary homelife and the tragic loss spurring him in a reckless disregard for his own safety now come into greater focus. We see that recklessness is new scenes underlining the differences between the two cops. Murtaugh, just 50, needs reassurance about his skills at a firing range. Riggs, not caring if he sees another birthday, coolly walks into a schoolyard sniper's field of fire. All the humor and adrenaline that made this original an entertainment milestone are here, too. No scenes have been removed. But new action and new insight are now included. Include yourself in the excitement.
"Lethal Weapon 2" (1989) Riggs wows the pretties of a hotel spa before getting to Getz. Murtaugh receives bad bodywork news from an auto repairman after his beleaguered station wagon sees some Riggs-piloted street action. Plus, feisty Leo shares a newly included scene in which he recalls a suspect's address by complex spins of numbers that, well, no one can tell it like Leo. And no one would follow his lead but Riggs and Murtaugh. It's police procedure, Lethal style. And it's yours to enjoy as the duo draws a bead on criminals hiding behind diplomatic immunity.
"Lethal Weapon" 3 (1992) Riggs and Murtaugh are back again. This time, they must stop a former cop who has become an arms dealer to L.A. street gangs.
"Lethal Weapon 4" (1998) Mel Gibson and Danny Glover return as buddy cops Riggs and Murtaugh, with Joe Pesci riding comedy shotgun as chatterbox Leo. Murtaugh is still the family man. Riggs is still the gonzo loose cannon and - what's this? - family man. His will-he/won't he marriage to Cole (Rene Russo) is one of the new wrinkles in this powerhouse crowd-pleaser that also stars comedy favorite Chris Rock and international action star Jet Li. This sequel involves an action packed battle with a Chinese
ganglord.

Sherlock: Season Two

This is a great series and going right along with Downton Abby PBS continues to offer amazing national(and local *wink*) programming that rivals anything else on TV anywhere!

Product Description:
Nominated for 4 primetime Emmys, Sherlock is back with Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Watson in three new stories. In A Scandal in Belgravia, Sherlock gets embroiled in the complex plans of the dangerous and desirable Irene Adler, and finds himself employing every one of his remarkable skills to survive as the unlikely duo square off in a battle of wits... and perhaps emotions? The Hounds of Baskerville whisks the increasingly popular detective and Watson to the wilds of Dartmoor, and face to face with the supernatural lurking in the eerie landscape. Meanwhile, Moriarty is still out there in the shadows, and is determined to bring Sherlock down - at whatever the cost - in The Reichenbach Fall. With beguiling performances, witty scripts and some of the most intriguing characters ever created, it's no wonder that Sherlock has proven to be a worldwide success.
