Lubbock city leaders are asking for citizens’ opinions ahead of a public meeting to discuss the subject of large-scale data centers.
The growing number of these large-scale data centers in West Texas communities like Abilene, Childress and Abernathy has raised questions and some pushback from citizens over their potential impact on water, energy, and other resources in the cities where they are built.
The City of Lubbock has confirmed a public meeting will be held on July 7, as an “opportunity for the City Council and City staff to hear citizens' thoughts, concerns, and perspectives on this important topic.”
This is not a public hearing over a specific data center proposal.
Over the next week, the City is taking an online survey to gauge public opinion on large-scale data centers before the meeting. You can find a link to fill out the survey here.
The survey portal will close on Thursday, July 2, at 11:59 p.m.Results of the survey will be presented at the July 7 public meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the banquet hall of the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
