College enrollment across and surrounding Lubbock has increased.
With its fourth consecutive Fall semester of growth and largest freshman class yet, Texas Tech University has an enrollment of over 42,200 students, including 1200 undergraduate and graduate students added this Fall, a 3 percent increase from last year.
South Plains College’s total enrollment increased by 4 percent to 9490 students, including a 10 percent increase in dual credit students. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board states that dual credit courses can involve high school students enrolling in college courses to complete both high school and college course credit.
Lubbock Christian University increased its enrollment to 1683 students.
West Texas A&M in Canyon had an enrollment increase of 3 percent up to 9257 students.
Census data shows that Lubbock’s largest population bracket is between 20 to 24 years old.
The Census also shows that 35 percent of Lubbock city residents have a bachelor’s degree, which matches the state average.
The three largest higher education institutions in Lubbock — Tech, LCU, and SPC — have a combined enrollment of 53,445.
The total Texas college student population, including two and four-year higher education institutions as well as health-related institutions, was 1.45 million in 2024, according to data from the THECB.
