After a series of public hearings, Lubbock's city council voted on a change to roadway impact fees, a shared cost between the city and developers to pay for road updates. Pending final approval, the rate for developers will decrease to zero percent. Also in yesterday's meeting, the council entered a commitment agreement setting aside land for a new indoor sports facility. Our reporter Bishop Van Buren has more on the plans.

The tooth of the prehistoric giant ground sloth has been uncovered right here in Lubbock as part of an environmental review for the Loop 88 highway project. Our Bishop Van Buren spoke with TxDot and reports on the discovery. Today marks the first day Lubbock's splash pads are open for the summer. The Mae Simmons, Maxey, and Rogers splash pads will be open this weekend from 10 A.M.to 8 P.M., beginning at 3 P.M. during the week, and return to normal hours starting May 23.

As the budget season draws to a close, some city leaders are concerned about cuts and commitments that could impact the future of Lubbock's quality of life. At the same time, some are still working to pull departments like Parks and Recreation out of the Pandemic's recession.
