In the new feature by 24 Frames, Lubbock-based ceramics artist James Watkins tells the story of how he had his work shown at the White House Craft Auction and the American Museum of Fine Arts.
Watkins tells 24 Frames he grew up with a family of craftsmen in Athens, Alabama. When he made his way to Lubbock, Texas from Hampton, Virginia, he had his first encounter with one of Lubbock's infamous dust storms. Instead of being put-off by this unusual weather, Watkins became inspired by the dust and incorporated it into his ceramics.
