19 Questions With 'From The Top' Violinist, Fiona Shea

Shea will be playing with NPR's "From The Top" on February 27th in Lubbock's Allen Theatre.

KTTZ sat down with the talented-teen violinist, Fiona Shea, to get to know her better with 19 questions. 

1. Three pieces of music you love:

Schubert's "Quintet in C Major," Beethoven's "Symphony No. 1," and Tchaikovsky's "Violin Concerto.”

2. Three recordings everyone should hear:

Michael Rabin playing Paganini's "24 Caprices," Henryk Szeryng playing "Bach Sonatas & Partitas," and Janine Jansen playing the "Violin Concerto in E Minor."

3. Three musical heroes:

Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven. 

4. An underrated piece of music:

Ives' "Quartet No. 2"

5. Name a piece of music you could happily never hear again:

"Csardas" by Monti.

6. Your greatest concert:

2015 TMEA All State Concert.

7. Your favorite film:

Monster's Inc.

8. A composer you wish had written for the violin:

Chopin.

9. Three favorite places in the world:

Fredonia in Upstate New York, Paris, and San Antonio.

10. Your proudest moment:

Being named 'Concert Master' of the 2015 All State Symphony Orchestra, which means you assist in leading the orchestra and have the top chair of the violin section.

11. What do you do to relax:

I sometimes play Yahtzee alone or any kind of board game where I don't have to think too much.

12. What's your guilty pleasure: 

Housecleaning.

13. Three living people you would love to meet:

Janine Jansen, Joshua Bell, and Yo-Yo Ma.

14. A historical person you would like to meet:

Piccinni.

15. A fictitious person you would like to be friends with:

John Singer from "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter."

16. Your favorite food:

Thai green curry at Choochai.

17. The best part about playing the violin:

When you’re playing a really beautiful passage correctly, there’s this moment when you’re so glad that you are able to play the violin and thankful for the composer who wrote it. It's just a moment when you think, “This is why I play the violin.”

18. If you weren’t a violinist, what would you want to be:

Pianist.
