Between Earth and Sky: The Journey Begins

Hey! Glad you found us. This will be your blog to follow along with as we head out to Alaska to film the movie. First and foremost a huge shout out to our Executive Producer David Weindorf. This was his brainchild, he has put so much into this and it just wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for him. A huge thank you to our funders as well, the USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, The Soil Science Society of America, The University of Alaska-Fairbanks, The Department of Plant and Soil Science at Texas Tech University, Texas Tech Public Media, and Texas Tech University.

If you don’t know “Between Earth and Sky” is a film about Alaska, and the arctic soils field tour led by Dr. Chien-Lu Ping. The tour is in its 23rd year and has led hundreds of students and professionals through one of the harshest environments on the planet, a 500 mile stretch from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay, AK. Through the lens of Alaska we can see how climate change is effecting our entire world, and through the soil science tour we can better understand what these changes mean. Production of the film will be from July 17th to August 8th with a release date for early 2017.

This blog is dedicated to the production of the film. We’ll have video clips, journal entries, photos and more as we make our way from Anchorage to Prudhoe Bay, AK. Search the hashtag #mykttz or #betweenearthandsky for more and check out our tumblr too.
