Speakeasy: A 1920s Cabaret

The Flatlands Dance Theatre is performing this weekend. Dr. Ali Duffy is today’s guest on the Front Row to give more information.

Tell us about Flatlands Dance.

Flatlands Dance Theatre was founded in 2010 and this is our ninth season as a professional dance company. We’re thrilled to be able to offer professional dance to the Lubbock community. We’re really excited about this coming show. We think it’s going to be something special and something new that we’ve never done before.

Tell us what you have in mind.

The show is called “Speakeasy: A 1920s Cabaret.” WE have a really special company member whose specialty is cabaret performance. He’s not going to be with us much longer, he’s about to move away from Lubbock. So, I thought we need to get a cabaret show together while he’s here and can be our master of ceremonies.

We’ve collaborated. He’s informed the choreographers all about the history of cabaret performance. And we’ve created a series of theatrical and musical acts that include comedy, dance, drama, musical performance, live jazz ensemble and it’s just a really wonderful evening.
