This week Curtis dishes up a full hour of instrumental guitar music from the early 1960s, all recorded at Norman Petty studios in Clovis, New Mexico.
After producing international hit records with the Fireballs and the String A Longs, many instrumental bands flocked to Clovis to record with Petty and capture the unique instrumental sound that was being produced in his studio. Many songs on today’s show were unreleased until NorVaJAk records produced a 2 cd compilation titled Border Beat, containing 73 tracks from 31 groups. Most of the artists included on this show are West Texas and Eastern New Mexico recording artists.
