An Interfaith panel discussing the play, Disgraced, yesterday at LHUCA, mediated by Texas Tech Public Radio's host of Faith Matters, Dr. Tom McGovern.
Disgraced, the most produced play in regional theatres last season, focuses on the lives of an American lawyer of South Asian descent and his artist wife living on New York's Upper East side. Their lives seem to move in predictable patterns of affluence and upper mobility. Her sudden interest in Islamic imagery begins to change her perspectives not only on art, but on Islamic culture. Her newfound connection with the culture of her husband's youth raises in him deeply conflicted views about his culture and his identity. A seemingly cordial dinner party with a co-worker and her husband explodes into a clash of racial, religious and political views that will leave everyone changed.
