When it was built in 1923, Texas Tech University's Administration Building was a ornate example of Spanish Renaissance architecture in West Texas, and since the beginning of the university, campus architects have kept that style intact for the one of the largest university campuses in the country.

Campus designer William Ward Watkin was inspired by the plateresque façade of the Universidad de Alcalá de Henares, near Madrid
