The Texas Tech Meat Science Academic Quiz Bowl took the national title and second place at the 66th Reciprocal Meat Conference on June 19 in Auburn, Alabama.
The Red Raiders entered two teams, which met head-to-head in the final round finishing first and second.
Team Coach, LoniWoolley, said most universities don't get the chance to have both of their teams in the finals.
“We had to compete against 36 different teams from 16 different states,” Wolley said.
Mandy-Jo Laurent, studying ruminant nutrition for her bachelors degree, said this is a great reflection on the Department of Animal and Food Sciences at Texas Tech.
“All the support that CASNR gives us has been a huge blessing,” Laurent said.
Wolley, a former participant and national titleholder as well, said being the coach for three years adds more pressure.
For Laurent, this win represents three years of hard work and dedication.
“There is not a whole lot of people that would come back for a third year,” Laurent said.
Bo Hutto and Tanner Adams received American Meat Science Association Scholastic Achievement Awards, and honorary mention was given to Heather Rode and Dakotah Williams.
