DVD Picks 7/31/12

And I thought last week was bad. There are literally no movies this week I recommend, but I will tell you about some interesting things that are coming out.

Hatfields & McCoys (2012)
dir. Kevin Reynolds

This was a good release from the History Channel but it also had some terribly corny moments.

Product Description:
The Hatfield-McCoy saga centers on "Devil" Anse Hatfield and Randall McCoy. Close friends and comrades during the Civil War, they returned to their neighboring homes - Hatfield in West Virginia, McCoy just across the Tug River border in Kentucky - to increasing tensions, misunderstandings and resentments that soon exploded into all-out warfare between the families. As hostilities grew, friends, neighbors and outside forces joined the fight, bringing the two states to the brink of another Civil War.

LOL (2012)
dir. Lisa Azuelos

LOL!!!

Product Description:
In a world connected by Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Miley Cyrus stars as a teen girl navigating through the peer pressures of high school romance and friendship, while dodging her protective mother (Demi Moore), in the fresh coming-of-age comedy LOL.

Fathers Day (2011)
dir. Adam Brooks

Just the cover and description of this one has me interested. Campy B Movie? Yes!

Product Description:
The urban legend known as 'The Father's Day Killer' began some years after the demise of serial rapist/murderer Chris Fuchman. Since the 1970s, the use of contraceptives has tripled in North America alone and a generation of fathers fell asleep with the covers pulled tight, buttocks clenched. The story has become a fire-side cautionary ritual on camping trips, often used by fathers to warn their sons of the dangers of unplanned pregnancy. That deep seeded fear of penetration, violation and eventually death waned as the murder and rape of fathers continued to decline all over the world. Unfortunately those numbers didn't remain low, and it would seem that the legend is not yet complete.

Zyzzyx Road (2006)
dir. John Penney

Step 1. To Movie Release Failure

giving your movie a name that is impossible to pronounce.

Product Description:
An accountant on a business trip to Vegas has an affair with a beautiful woman he meets in the Casino. When her boyfriend breaks in on their party a fight ensues and he's knock cold....and DEAD. To cover up the couple decides to bury him on Zyzzyx Road. The accountant becomes more irrational and sees and talks with the murdered boyfriend. Twists n Turns and a surprise ending ensue.

Wolverine: Animated Series (2011)

This Wolverine cartoon is actually what Darren Aronofsky wanted to make his live action Wolverine movie about. You know, until "Wolverine" was released and was the worst movie ever.

Product Description:
This series pays homage to Frank Miller's legendary Wolverine graphic novel from the 1980's. The series begins when Mariko, the love of Logan's life, is forced back to Japan by her crime-lord father, Shingen. Logan vows to get her back at any cost. He is plunged into a chaotic world of corruption and violence, forcing him to team up with young assassin, Yukio, to battle their way through the Japanese criminal underworld.
