The Texas Tech football program joined country music legend Garth Brooks’ Teammates for Kids Foundation to host a youth camp Sunday morning at Jones AT&T Stadium.

Head coach Kliff Kingsbury and his staff teamed with Brooks in hosting roughly 70 youth athletes from the Lubbock area, all of which were attending free of charge. The camp focused on teaching important football skills as well as developing character and leadership traits.

“This was an unbelievable opportunity to participate in such a good cause,” Kingsbury said. “It’s incredible that Garth takes the time he does on every tour stop to conduct a camp like this. The kids were phenomenal and learned a tremendous amount not only about football, but also about character and leadership.”

Teammates for Kids, the foundation co-founded by Brooks, has hosted a youth sports camp at each city so far on Brooks’ world tour, which is closing a four-day stay in the Hub City on Sunday afternoon. Brooks’ return to Lubbock resulted in five sellout shows at United Supermarkets Arena this weekend.

Adopted in 1999, Teammates for Kids is funded 100 percent by private donations, allowing the foundation to donate all of its proceeds straight to children around the world. Brooks’ camps are operated by Pro Camps, which attracts the support of hundreds of professional athletes and celebrities each year.

This is the second time already this weekend where the Red Raider football program joined forces with a foundation to bring joy to a young child’s life. Tech hosted Andrew and Braden – its Fearless Dream Kids - as their VIP guests during its spring game Saturday, allowing the pair to each score a touchdown in the latter moments of the offense’s 49-31 victory.
